Can my SMSF buy any type of property?

Residential investment properties must be purchased from an unrelated party. You can't buy a property you or a related party already owns or lives in. Commercial properties, including your own business premises, operate under different rules and are often more flexible. Why can't I just go to my bank for an SMSF loan?
